The UK’s largest free flower festival, Chelsea in Bloom, returned this May with its most imaginative edition yet, transforming the neighbourhood into a vibrant open‑air gallery inspired by the 2026 theme, Out of This World.
Now in its 21st year, the festival, originally created by partners including Cadogan and the Royal Horticultural Society, once again brought the spirit of the Chelsea Flower Show directly onto the streets, drawing record crowds and showcasing extraordinary creativity from local businesses, schools, churches and community groups.
More than 150 installations took over the area, each interpreting the celestial theme through mythology, astrology, space travel, science fiction and iconic cultural references. The result was a trail that blended craftsmanship, storytelling and spectacle, reinforcing Chelsea’s reputation as one of London’s most imaginative neighbourhoods.
Many of Martin’s Properties’ Chelsea tenants took part once again this year, including Graham & Brown, Ixchel, Luca Falconi, Lloyds, Nike and The Ivy Chelsea, who’s installation was brought to life via one of the most visited digital campaigns.
This year’s awards were among the most competitive to date, with displays judged by both RHS and Lifestyle panels. Astrid and Miyu were named ‘Best Floral Display’, with Chelsea Heritage Quarter and N.Peal receiving Highly Commended recognition. The Conran Shop took home the Innovation Award for its bold and original interpretation of the theme.
The People’s Champion Award went to Trinny London, whose tarot‑inspired installation featured The Sun, Strength, Ten of Cups and Queen of Staves, celebrating empowerment, joy and inner light. In total, judges awarded 40 Gold, 57 Silver and 19 Bronze accolades, reflecting the exceptional standard of entries across the neighbourhood.
According to official figures, visitor numbers on the opening day rose by 21% compared with last year, suggesting that 2026 may be the festival’s busiest year yet. For Martin’s Properties, Chelsea in Bloom continues to be a highlight in the local calendar, bringing energy, colour and community spirit to the area while supporting the vibrancy of the local economy.
This year’s festival also supported two charity partners: the British Fashion Council Foundation and The Confetti Club, which repurposes leftover petals into confetti sold in support of Cancer Research UK. Their involvement underscores the festival’s commitment not only to creativity but also to sustainability and social impact.
From cosmic installations to celestial storytelling, Chelsea in Bloom 2026 delivered a celebration that was imaginative, inclusive and truly out of this world. As the neighbourhood continues to evolve, events like this highlight the enduring creativity and community connection that make Chelsea such a distinctive and inspiring place to live, work and visit.
